Video: Why St Charles Borromeo Risked His Life

Here is another story from Witnesses of the Faith, a series of short videos about the lives of Catholic saints, martyrs, and witnesses to Christ.

In 1576, the plague devastated the city of Milan.

The streets emptied. The sick were abandoned. Even many officials and nobles fled for safety.

But while others escaped the city, one man returned to it.

St. Charles Borromeo, Archbishop of Milan, entered the plague-stricken streets and called his priests to do the same, bringing food to the hungry, caring for the sick, and risking death to ensure that even the dying would not be abandoned without the sacraments.

Among the countless victims was one man cast into a pit with the dead… who suddenly cried out for one final Communion.

This is the story of St. Charles Borromeo during the plague of Milan.
