Is anyone out there? Do you read this blog?

I've been falling down on the job. Although I used to type on this blog frequently, especially a few months ago, when I was posting something nearly everyday, that has somewhat fallen to the wayside.

Part of the problem is that I really don't know how the blog is doing. Are people reading it? Do I have followers? Or are people just accidentally clicking on my links and then exiting soon afterwards? Please comment below if you fall into any of those categories. I love to hear from people but I simply have not very often.

I looked at the stats and it indicates I continue to receive about 30-40 visitors daily, despite not adding new content. I do have well over 1000 blog posts so it seems some are somewhat "evergreen", meaning they continue to have relevance. I guess it's kind of like the Church herself.

So that's it on the blog front. Maybe I will start writing more articles. I would love to hear what kind of articles you want to see. More news? More opinion pieces? What are you looking for? Do you want things which are more personal? Perhaps you want me to just talk about things that are perhaps not directly related to the faith but just all kinds of topics informed by my faith? Let me know!

Otherwise in my life, I am trying to get things off the ground in terms of having a legitimate income, but it's proving to be quite difficult. Please pray for me to have some success. Thanks.

Blog Design Update

You'll notice the blog is updated. I noticed the previous format didn't give a lot of options to search through previous posts or to subscribe or make a donation. I hope you like this design better. Comment below if you have any suggestions!

Sorry I missed yesterday's readings

I'm not sure if anyone or how many people come here to get the readings daily. If you do, please let me know in the comments, I'd appreciate that. Yes, you. Anyway, I got a little off-track and missed yesterday and was late for today's. Would love to hear from you.

Next post soon...

Dear Blog Readers:

I apologize for the delay in posting a new blog entry. I usually try to have a new one daily before noon, usually in the morning. Today, however, has been rather busy. I will try to have one here by tonight. Thanks for your patience.

Open Letter to the fifth estate

I am writing a letter to the fifth estate, a Canadian investigative journalism program. Here it is:

Hana Gartner

Dear Ms. Gartner,

Please let me congratulate the Fifth Estate on producing some fine documentaries in the legacy of investigative journalism. Over the years, journalists of the Fifth Estate have taken it upon themselves to expose some of the most unpalatable behavior occurring in Canada and elsewhere. Many of your programs are head and shoulders above anything else I have seen from other networks, including from American and British television. Shows like the Fifth Estate are valuable for keeping the public informed and public figures in check.

Having said this, however, I am very disappointed at your recent report on the Catholic Church and sexual abuse. Although you are a dedicated and tireless journalist, it seems on this one you were lazy, and instead of uncovering something truly worthwhile, you decided to beat a dead horse. The story of Roman Catholic clergy sexual abuse is so overdone on Canadian and American television, you would think it is the only thing happening in the world. Instead of being a real trailblazer and reporting that not all priests are pedophiles, you took the low road, perhaps a road with more ratings, but certainly not more honorable.

To go the road of television sensationalism is something one might expect from American tabloid-style news broadcasts, but not from the CBC. The fact is your story portrayed a few individual priests. If you did a story on 5 rabbis who were murderers, some people could become very suspicious of the Jewish people. Instead of emphasizing that only a tiny percentage of priests ever committed such crimes, you tried to implicate the whole church. You profiled people leaving the church and never returning. Why, all of a sudden, does the minority represent the whole? The vast majority of priests would never hurt a fly, but no one would have that impression after watching your show.

As an investigative journalist, you have an obligation to remain unbiased, and to present all the evidence. You chose not to do this however. Take for example, the following information. Christianity Today noted that there were "70 child abuse allegations reported against American Protestant churches each week during the last ten years," a quarter of which were against pastors ("Go Figure," May 21, 2002).

When the American federal government shut down the "Candyman" pedophile web site last March, it was reported that the site’s more than 7,000 visitors included members of the military, police and fire departments, teachers, Little League coaches, and eight members of the clergy, including two Catholic priests—two out of 7,000.

Another statistic I read said teachers were charged with sexual abuse at a rate 4 times higher than Catholic clergy. I do not know the source, but it is the job of a journalist to find out.

The Fifth Estate is ultimately paid for by Canadian citizens in the form of taxes, as well as advertising from sponsors. Forty three percent of these Canadians are Roman Catholic, and I think it would be high time for your program to earn its reputation again by doing a real investigative report that shows the hypocrisy of singling out the Roman Catholic Church when it comes to sexual abuse.

Sincerely,

Philip Lynch

It's finally reached less than 1,000,000

Alexa ranks webpages on the Internet, and with your help as readers, this blog has surpassed 1,000,000 in its ranking and currently ranks at 887,363! I wish to thank everyone who reads this blog, and who makes this possible. If you want to help the rank go even higher, you can install the Alexa Toolbar, by clicking here.

This is a great milestone for this blog. Please continue to stop by, as I will continue to update this website regularly!

Development and Progress of this Blog

This blog, holymotherchurch.blogspot.com is all about issues surrounding the Catholic Church. I have been interested in this area for quite some time now, and started to research it more intensely over the past year. Prior to this, I was involved with various Church activities and went go to Church weekly. This is a report on how this blog has been doing so far.

I started this blog in August, 2006, and added a few articles, mostly in the form of Catholic Apologetics. The posts were more infrequent until one day I noticed the site had an Alexa ranking. Alexa tracks the ranking of sites on the Internet, once it reaches a certain level of viewership. To even be in Alexa, a site must be doing relatively well. Once I noticed that this blog was listed in Alexa, I became excited at the possibility that I was reaching many people. It wasn't until January of this year that I noticed the ranking, and it was around 6.7 million (closer to 1 is better). A couple of week later, it was around 3.3 million, then it went to around 2.4 million, and now it's very close to 2 million. This all happened in just a few weeks. Looking also to Google Analytics which tracks visitors and such, this blog gets visitors from around the world, including many from the US and Canada, but also in Europe, China, and India. I'm very pleased so far. My goal right now is to get the site past 1 million in Alexa, and eventually to get it past 100,000. This is would very wonderful.

This is all made possible by people like you who come to this site and read it. I like to include very interesting articles that Catholics and non-Catholics alike will enjoy reading. This includes articles on miracles, saints, famous Catholics, dogmas, doctrines, and more. Please feel very welcome and free to view any or all of these articles. I would like to encourage people to comment on these articles, as well as send me questions, and also to suggest articles by emailing me at philinaberdeen at gmail.com You can even submit an article and I will review it to see if I can include it on this blog.

Thank you to everyone who is helping make this blog a success. The information here can be seen by millions of people worldwide, and I think everyone will agree, the information I present is very useful, interesting, and important. Have a great day!
